Auditorium
The school’s auditorium is located in S Block and provides tiered seating for over 100. It is used for visiting guest speakers and can accommodate three or four classes at one time. With its big projector and big screen, the auditorium is also the ideal venue for parent information sessions.
Campus
Applecross Senior High School is located in the pleasant near riverside suburb of Ardross. It is approximately ten kilometres from the Perth central business district. The school’s boundary roads include Links Road, Ardessie Street, and Leverburgh Street.
A major building and refurbishment project was completed in 2016, providing state of the art learning facilities for students and expansive landscaped spaces.
Teaching-learning areas include a Performing Arts Centre for Dance, Drama and Music, a purpose-built Visual Arts Centre, a Design and Technology Centre, three Home Economics rooms, an Auditorium, eleven Science Laboratories, a Fitness Centre, Gymnasium, and eight Computer Laboratories. All classrooms have been networked for learning with technology, including data projectors, and students have online access via classroom computers or laptops to the Library Resource Centre and the Internet.
A large gymnasium and swimming pool are central to the Health and Physical Education program. Other sporting facilities include the school oval, six Synpave tennis courts, two basketball courts, and a fitness centre.
Canteen
The Canteen is located in the centre of the S block on the ground floor. It is open daily from Monday to Friday until lunchtime.
The Canteen is managed by the Parents and Citizens Association and sells a variety of healthy foods during recess and lunchtime. Lunch can be ordered from 8:00 am to 8:25 am.
Fitness Centre
The Fitness Centre is equipped with a variety of cardio machines and free weights. It also has networked audio visual equipment to enable ICT integration into lessons. Fitness units are incorporated into the Physical Education program, allowing students to participate in a range of self-paced activities promoting a healthy, active lifestyle.
Gymnasium
The large gymnasium is an integral part of the Health and Physical Education program. It is used for a variety of indoor sporting activities, including badminton, basketball and volleyball. The synthetic floor surface is a relatively new product used in many new indoor sporting facilities around Australia.
Health Centre
The Health Centre is located next to Student Services in the Health and Wellbeing Centre in C Block. A First Aid Officer is based at the campus fulltime.
The Centre comprises a waiting area, an office, a well-equipped treatment room, a spacious bathroom and toilet (and two observation rooms with three recliner chairs).
Parents/guardians are requested to keep the nurse/school informed of any change in your child’s health status. Please keep your child home if they are unwell, encourage water consumption, and ensure your child is ready for the school day.
Hospitality Learning Facility
The Hospitality Learning Facility at the school is an invaluable resource for students wanting to gain essential skills and knowledge for the hospitality industry. Located in the S Block and N Block, students can take part in real-world experiences in hospitality and customer service at our two cafés, open during recess. The Café located in N Block also features an industry-standard kitchen, allowing students to hone their food preparation skills.
STEM Building
The addition of a brand new STEM Building to our campus, made possible by a $1.5 million grant from the state government, provides our students with a dedicated space to pursue their interests in STEM and conduct research into sustainable and eco-friendly design. The STEM Building will be an invaluable resource to our students and faculty, allowing them to explore their passion for STEM and further their knowledge and skills.
Teaching and Learning Resources Centre
The Teaching and Learning Resource Centre (Library) is open from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm Monday – Thursday and 7:30 am to 3:00 pm on Fridays. The centre houses over 18,000 books and magazines which support and enrich the school curriculum. Students also have access to our Wheelers eLibrary, which has over 2800 eBooks and more than 800 audiobook titles on offer. These can be borrowed anywhere, anytime and on multiple devices.
The IT Helpdesk is located in the Library. IT staff are available to support students with their laptops and connectivity issues before and after school and during break times.
The Library has fully automated search engine computers to enable students and staff to search for resources. Students in Years 7 – 10 may borrow six books, and Year 11 and 12 students may borrow eight books at a time and for a two-week loan period. Magazines and study guides that are in high demand are only available for a 7-day loan.
Students can print work to the Library colour copier before and after school and during break times. Money can be added to their PaperCut printing account through the Finance Office, located at Administration. The Library photocopier has a new feature that allows students to scan their SmartRider cards and access photocopying options that were previously unavailable to students.
The addition of new book displays and comfortable low-level ottomans and lounges attract more students to the Library. We also have a dedicated Literacy classroom and a private study room for Year 12 students to use before school and during break times.
Tennis Courts
Our six tennis courts, conveniently located next to the school oval, provide our Specialist Tennis students with the ideal environment to develop their skills and prepare for school studies, club pennants, and tournament play.
