Positive Education is the application of the science of wellbeing and the principles of positive psychology within education. Positive Education aims to create a school community where students and staff learn the skills to become their best possible selves.
The Applecross SHS Positive Education program is a comprehensive wellbeing program based on the application of character strengths, and the elements of psychological wellbeing and happiness- Martin Seligman’s PERMAH principles.
Positive Education is embedded throughout daily life at Applecross SHS, and in 2021 students will take part in the following program:
Year 7 and 8 students
- One hour Positive Education lesson in homeroom class in weeks 3,6 and 9 of every term.
- Explicit Positive Education content taught in Health Education classes.
- Positive psychology practices embedded into MESH curriculum.
Year 9 students
- One hour Positive Education lesson in homeroom class in weeks 3,6 and 9 of every term
- Explicit Positive Education content taught in Health Education classes
- Positive psychology practices embedded into MESH curriculum
Year 10 students
- Positive psychology practices embedded into MESH curriculum
Year 11 and 12 students
- Positive Education content taught in SMART period at various times throughout the year.
