STEM @ Applecross

STEM integrates the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and provides students with the critical skills that they will need to be successful in the future job market. At Applecross SHS, we believe in providing students with real-world applications of the STEM skills they develop to ensure they are future-focused and job-ready.

Through the teaching of STEM principles, students will gain skills including critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, collaboration, communication, presentation skills, digital literacy and independent thinking. Our whole school approach to STEM aims to create a culture of inquiry and creativity that will best prepare our students for life beyond school.

The commissioning of our new state-of-the-art STEM lab in mid-2023 provides students with a tailor-made space to develop their STEM skills. Students have access to a range of facilities and equipment, including 3D printers, Laser Cutters, Drones, Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software and various robotics.

STEM at Applecross includes offering students the opportunity to:

  • Take part in extracurricular activities
  • Participate in STEM-focused competitions and projects
  • Engage in integrated cross-curricular projects
  • Choose STEM-specific subjects
  • Train in the use of industry-standard equipment

A renewed focus has been placed on STEM at Applecross SHS, and a specialised STEM pathway is currently being developed in consultation with staff, students and the wider community.

We look forward to providing you with updates on the progress of the STEM program in the near future. If you have any comments, suggestions or queries, please email erin.nicol@education.wa.edu.au
