#Codelikeagirl is open to girls in year 8, 9 and 10 who are interested in learning how to code. You will have the chance to work with IT students and lecturers as mentors who will help you code like a pro. Term 2 will be all about gaming - playing, designing and creating!
The needs of academically talented students are specifically catered for through the Academic Extension Program, which operates in English, Humanities and Social Sciences, Mathematics and Science in Years 7 to 10, and Japanese and French in Years 9 and 10.
The Academic Extension Program provides special discrete classes for students who have been selected on the basis of their performance in these subjects. Courses studied are, in many cases, the same as those provided for the most academically able students in mainstream classes, but the Academic Extension students are often required to complete extra courses of study and are offered a variety of learning experiences designed both to develop their skills and competencies while providing challenging and motivating learning experiences.
The application process for each of the four Academic Extension classes are found within the full enrolment packs handed out to local parents in Term 1 each year. (Whilst prospective students are in Year 6). Whilst this process provides the initial Academic Extension class list, class timetabling continues in the latter half of the year prior to commencement, and at this time, there are additional opportunities for inclusion in the program should the school assess a student as suitable.
The Academic Extension Program offered by Applecross Senior High School is NOT a Department of Education Gifted and Talented Program, therefore any “out of area” academic extension applications received will be processed for testing, however results of testing WILL NOT result in an application acceptance to Applecross Senior High School.
Students will be required to gain access to Applecross Senior High School via the usual enrolment application process. Out of Area applications are based on distance from the school to the student’s residential address. The school will decide if any “out of area” applications will be accepted towards the end of Term 3 of the preceding year of entry.
Academic Extension Application forms should be returned to Reception as soon as possible, with applications closing 3.00pm Wednesday 8th May 2017.
Academic Testing will be conducted here at Applecross Senior High School on Thursday 2nd June 8.30-2.50pm
