“Thank You” to the teachers of the 24 Care Groups which participated in the Student Representative Council’s Salvation Army Christmas Hamper Appeal, and to staff who have made a contribution of food or other goods.  The photos below show most of the food and about half of the toys/gifts contributed. The representatives of the Salvation Army who came along were thrilled at Applecross’s contribution, and said if every school made a similar contribution, that would keep their food supplies going until next October. So whether your contribution was big or small, every bit has contributed to making our effort worthwhile and helping the Salvos to make Christmas a lot happier for many families.

The winning Care Group was Miss Don’s class (8A1), which contributed an amazing 127 items!

Write a book in a day began in 1985 by the Katharine Susannah Prichard Writer’s Centre, the oldest writers’ centre of its kind in Australia. The competition is open to primary, secondary, Open and corporate teams consisting of 5 – 10 people per team.

Today Applecross SHS hosted the 2015 awards ceremony. The winners had to write a book in 12 hours, in a chosen venue, sometime between  1 April – 31 August 2015.

The Year 11 team from Applecross called Mirror Image, submitted a book called The Love Doctor. Although not a winning entry, the team were very helpful at the ceremony coordinated by Ms Veronica Lake, Head of English.

The annual School Board Open meeting will be held on Monday 26 October at 6pm in the Library. All are welcome at this meeting. Light refreshments will be served.
