P&C News and Upcoming Meeting

Welcome to all parents, partners and guardians both new and returning. 2018 promises to be an exciting year.

To all new parents, partners and guardians to Applecross Senior High School, we wish to welcome you into our School community.

The P&C has been a strong supporter of the school, its staff and students, and has with the Parent Contributions and a very successful Canteen provided ongoing support for the swimming pool, library resources, revision classes, outdoor furniture to name a few.

The P&C is active in many ways — all of them designed to improve our children's learning environment and to support the teachers and students in their pursuit of an excellent educational experience, together with the pastoral care that ensures that our children are supported emotionally and physically. We are a proud P&C with a host of achievements that have been supported by the commitment of the parental community. The students have an opportunity through you, as their parent, to voice their needs or concerns and support their ventures.

The P&C  reintroduced the 2nd Hand Uniform shop in an online form in 2016 and proceeds are used for supporting the Chaplain, who also receives direct support via the canteen with his before and after school activities.

There is also The Sustainable School Shop - it is a great way to find 2nd hand uniforms, text books etc and to sell those unwanted ones. You can search by school for uniforms and Applecross P&C receives a small commission -

We encourage you to participate in your Association and to join the meetings on the third Monday of each month at 7.00pm during the School Term in the Staff Room. Come along to contribute in the planning and to find out firsthand what's happening from our Principal, Paul Leech. Parents are encouraged to participate and voice their opinions and concerns, and to contribute in a positive environment. With more parental involvement, the whole school can benefit from a broad representation of the school community, working cooperatively together to offer the best level of school community support.

Everyone is busy. Everyone lacks time. I urge you to make time and allow yourself to discover the fabric of the school, its culture and its planning for your children. We look forward to your involvement on the P&C and seeing you at the meetings.

You can get a drink from HJs or Maccas if you’re desperate – you can also get the opportunity to help spend $100,000 +.

$1 membership fee is all it costs to be a member of the P&C. $1 allows you to participate in making suggestions and decisions as to where the monies will be spent.

In 2017 the P&C Committee made decisions on how to spend $130,000 for the benefit of students. Half of this money comes from your P&C Contribution, 30% from the Canteen, with the remainder coming from Uniform Concepts commission, 2nd Hand Uniform Shop and other miscellaneous revenue. Wouldn’t you like to have a say in where this money can best be spent?

The first meeting of the year will be the AGM which will be catered to allow for members new and old to get to know each other on Monday 19th February 2018 at 7.00pm in  the Staff Room, Level 2 Entry from Links road entrance.

Ben Kelly who is one of our HASS Teachers will be there to chat about the new initiative he implemented last year- the Outdoor Education Well-Being Experience. The P&C together with the school provided funding to run this in November 2017, with a view to including it from 2018 on The Proposed Excursion List. It is a valuable program with benefits to a cross section of Year 10 Students, that the P&C pledged to support going forward. Want to know more? Come along and find out.

There will be refreshments, so please come along and grab a cuppa and get to know each other.

All positions have been declared vacant, we have a couple of expressions of interest already, but if you want to help but not ready to put your hand up then become a P&C Member and help us decide how the money can best be spent.

As we do not actively engage in fundraising at this time, none of the positions are particularly onerous, but we do need them filled to be able to run the P&C and together with other P&C Members decide where the funds are to be spent.

Remember this is all about providing the best learning environment for our children.

We can all help make that happen
